This is probably a basic question but it is driving me insane.

I am trying to save a selection from a photo to open in Dreamweaver. I am able to mask the selection and eliminate the background, but when I open up the image in Dreamweaver I have white where the background was. How do I eliminate everything around my selection to have just the selection appear?

Any help is much appreciated!

Just delete the stuff you don't want, then use File > Save for web and save it as either a JPEG or GIF file and then open it in dreamweaver. If you save it as a GIF, make sure the colors drop down menu is set to 256.

How do you suggest I delete the stuff I don't want? I can get rid of the background but in the saved image a white background is in the place of the former background. I just want the masked portion of the image. Sorry to be repetitive.

Thanks!

If you want the deleted portion of the image to be transparent, you will have to save the file as a transparent GIF. Or you could use a .PNG file type, but they don't work exactly right in all browsers yet.

Your a genius that did the trick. I never would have figured that out on my own. Any tips for more accurate masking, I'm getting uneven pixels with the old background, kind a pixel halo around the masked image.

It's difficult to make transparent GIFs have smooth edges, because they only have one degree of transparency. It's either transparent, or it isn't. Which make it hard to blend it into the background. The .PNG file type allows for multiple layers of transparency, which makes it much easier to have smooth edges because it can just slowly fade into the background. But like I said, not all browsers fully support PNG yet.

Thanks for the input! I will continue to experiment with it.
