Isolating Lightning

Is there anyway that i could do a ligthning affect but isolate the lightning and paste just the and not the black background on another image?

Keep it on its own layer and try the Screen or Overlay blending modes.
For more control, use Advanced Blending modes in the Layer Styles dialogue.
