what is the best way to turn a color image to black n white,
I use enhance > color > remove color , and i like to know if this is the best way.

Image mode: Grayscale. Then convert back to RGB if you like. That might be the shortcut that Paavo listed, but I am too lazy to open PS and see....

First, have a look at each channel individually. You may find that one of them has just the sort of shadow and highlight you're looking for. If so dithch the others and convert the image to Grayscale.

Another way is to switch to LAB mode, then ditch the a & b channels.

Then, there's the Channel Mixer...

There are probably 10 different ways, but which one you use will have to depend on a careful analysis of the particular image you're working on and being able to determine which method will be best suited.
