If i wanted to draw a straight line with a color, much in the way you would traditionally with the edge of a rule, with the paintbrush or pencil tool, how would i do this? The pen tool creates paths. i do not want this. i just want to draw or paint a straight line. Any suggestions? thanks!

and if you don't want straight (or 45 degree) lines, just use the polygonal lasso tool , and choose "stroke" by rightClicking.

Hey this is weird question that i have but i use PS 7 and when i choose the tools to draw cirlces custom shapes ect..They all come out with a pic of an "arrow" in stead of a line or a square, orcircle...Is there some preferences somewhere that i can possibly delete to get rid of that.?

Mmh, take the line tool, there should be a little down arrow in the options bar, next to the custom shapes button. Click it and remove the "v's" out of the checkboxes.
