I don't have PS here at work, so this might not work...
• find a fiery text tutorial - usually involved the wind filter and index color>color table>black body
• Instead of using white text, draw a white horizontal line (I imagine this would look good a bit rough and wavy) and apply the tutorial principles to this
•
when you've got a horizontal line of fire, apply the polar coordinates filter to turn it into a circle.
I'll have a play about when I get home and compose a proper tutorial if it works...

ok, its not bad...probably wants a bit of tweaking...
• open a new image on a square canvas (I used 400x400px) with a black background
• using the paintbrush on a fairly small setting, draw a line from the top of the canvas to the bottom, roughly half way across, in white.
• filter>stylise>wind (wind, from the left)
• ctrl+f to repeat
• filter>stylise>wind (wind, from the right)
• ctrl+f to repeat
• rotate the canvas through 90 degrees so the line is horizontal
• filter>distort>ocean ripple (1,1)
• image>mode>greyscale (yes to flatten all layers if it asks)
• image>mode>indexed color
• image>mode>color table (select black body from the dropdown list)
• image>mode>RGB color
•
filter>distort>polar coordinates (rectangular to polar)
There...let me know how you get on.

The last tut was good but i have a better suggestion to make the flames look real. After the wind, go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and blur it at a setting of between 3 and 5.

I made this fire ring and was wondering if I can put it in my styles pallete. I'm not sure how to do it. Does it matter that I made it CMYK? I never use RGB.
Thanks,
Sue
