Help-------a billion questions! I am working with a scanned image. Added lots of text over the image. How can I save and print just the text? I want to print it on transparent paper as an overlay. The only way I can see how it lines up with the image is to scan the image in 1st. someone else told me to go back to the layers palatte and delete the layer I don't want. How do ya get back to all the previous layers? Once the image is saved to the desk top the history palatte disappears too. Huh? Hellp! Cinnamon |

If you did Flatten Image or merged the layers together, there's no hope for you unless you redo the text layers.

A billion dollar answer: Always make a backup of your work.... If you are drastically altering or making any kind of changes to your file, make a copy. Its so simple and will save you a billion frustrations down the road. and also text on a white background will print just the text. All you have to do is just hide the layers you dont want, print the transparency, then hide the text and un-hide the other layers and print on your other paper. I am assuming you are printing this yourself? If you do this to a print house they will cringe. |

Thanks for your reply, but that's what I don't know how to do is get to the previous layers. Once I save the document, the layers palatte and History palatte disappear. How do I retrieve the layers to delete the layers I don't want to print? Not to worry about the printer guy--I'm doing this on H2O color paper for fine artwork |

You just go window/layers and the layers pallette should pop right up, same goes for history i believe

I think that he saved the file as a jpeg or something, which flattened the file. Cinnamon, in order for you to save your layers in the document, you have to save it as a .PSD file (Photoshop Document File). If you save it as a TIF, JPEG, GIF or anything else, it will flatten your layers, and you will no longer be able to edit the separate parts of the image. That is why when doing a complex image you should always save the file as a .PSD first, then use Save As to save it as a TIF or some other format when you need to send it to a printer or something like that. And if you are going to put the image on a web page, use File>Save for Web and save it as a JPEG or GIF so that the file size is small. If you did not save the file you were working on as a PSD, then there is no hope of getting your layers back. The image is now permanently merged together, and you will have to start over. And your History palette is never saved. Not even on a PSD file. |

Whenever I work on anything I always have this folder I call: "psdSrc" and I keep all my psd's in there. So the source work is always intact. Its a good habit to do. |
