well the first problem is probably because you are only making your selection on the text layer, there for it will only take the text. What you have to understand is if you make a layer and paste something on to it, that is the only thing on that layer. If you make a selection with that layer selected it only takes from that layer. So make your selection and then go edit/copy merged and it will take everything in that selection no matter what layer. Your second problem may be after you paste the selection you have to click on the arrow tool to move it around. |

Now how do I save/ select all layers? Thanks for solving the Second Problem! ( I would really appreciate if someone can answer this, when I drag and paste e.g. text on a button I can only paste at the top or at the bottom of the button is there a way that I can adjust (paste) the text 100% where I want it? (other then typing the text originally at the spot I want it (which I find very difficult to do) (Using Photoshop 6.0) Thanks To ALL! Special Thanks To: Mi Lo Fu :( :( |

You can copy all layers by duplicating the whole file. Image --> Duplicate. |

Hi You should understand layers. First you can drag the object form one window to another like you know so select > window> document>tile to see them both confidently. In your target window make sure that the button layer is the active one and then drag it from the source window. press shift while you draging it to place it in the same location(only if the documents are the same size) Tip : to make a new window under the active one involve ctrl while you create a layer, you can see what alt does ;) shay |

Hi I tried Image > Duplicate: and it will still only paste the Text (not the button)? Re: You should understand layers. First you can drag the object form one window to another like you know so select > window> document>tile to see them both confidently. When I drag the button only the text will drag not the button and I get an error message: “Could not complete your request because the layer is locked”? Thanks:( |

Sorry, I can still use more help, Although I finely did it! Copying and Pasting the button with the text I did it by first saving it as a "Jpg" first. Re: "you sould chack Auto select in the option bar of the move tool or you can press ctrl while you click on the object" When I do that I only get the button and not the text ? layer platte? Thanks for your time!:o |

Go to Image --> Mode --> RGB That was too obvious. hehe. A gif is 'indexed' and wont let you do to much to it. Saving as a jpg makes it in rgb mode so you can work with it. |

I'll be as basic as I can so there's no confusion for ya:D First the layer panel: thats the panel over on the right looks something like this: Layer Panel When you create your button and text you will have created 2 layer : which are seperate of each other. You can see from that image above that there are 2 layers 'square' and 'texture' so imagine those 2 layers as your Text and Button. So to copy and paste both at the same time first goto the Menubar along the top: Layers/Merge all Layers or 'ctrl+E' this will combine the 2 layers into one image then you'll be able to copy and paste it all without having to do what you just did - you can then undo the merge layer process by going to the Menubar, Edit, undo or ctrl+z so you'll still have you're original button+text incase you want to make changes later on. If you're have problems moving something around, this could be for 3 reasons: [1] you don't have auto-select layer enabled [2] you're not using the correct tool [3] snap to grid is still enabled To move something around use the Move Tool thats the tool that looks like a black arrow with a 'cross' '+' under it. When you have that tool selected you'll notice, just under the Menu Bar (File Edit Image etc) the options for that tool. You will see 2 check boxes 'Auto Select Layer' and 'Show bounding box' make sure there's a check in Auto Select Layer and Show bound box. To take snap off goto the Menubar, View and uncheck SNAP - so now when u move something around it'll not jump to the nearest grid mark and will move to 'exactly' where u want to place it. You'll also notice that now when u select part of your image - say the text - look at the Layer Panel and you see it becomes highlighted - now just incase you run into another problem say you copy and paste your button+text to your new window and you have other images in that window - you may not see it because its underneath another layer ie behind another image. You'll need to bring your button+text to the front so goto the Menubar: Layers, Arrange, bring to the front 'shift+crtl+]' and look at the Layer Panel the 'text+button layer' is now above all the other layers. I hope that all makes sense and that I haven't sounded too condesending I'm justing assuming you know very little and are starting from scratch. |
