I ahve been looking around for a while now as well as working on my own and I cannot get this to work correctly. I have re-created this image: Now, I want to change the text 'Independant' that is warped inside the cross to say something else. THe problem is also that I have to do it repeatedly, so I cant spend 50 hours doing it just one time. I hope someone can help me. Thanks. |

That logo, like most logos, was probably done in Adobe Illustrator or a similar vector art program. Logos are done in vector programs because that way the image can be scaled to any size and look exactly the same. Also, the warping effect you are seeing was probably done using a vector envelope distort. Illustrator can do that, and I believe Macromedia Freehand can as well (though I don't use Freehand to know if it can). As for if photoshop can do that, Ummm.... Your best bet with Photoshop would be to use the text warping tools that come with Photoshop and hope one will achieve a similar effect. In Photoshop 7, the text warping tool is the little "T" icon with a curving arrow underneath it on top of the screen when you have the type tool selected. The "squeeze" text warping effect will give you a very similar effect, but it will not curve both the top and bottom of the text equally like you are wanting it to. But as I stated above, if I was gonna re-create this logo, I would be using Illustrator and its envelope distortion to do it. |

You could try this.... Rather than forcing the text to fit a shpe, try making the text first then make the shape around-it... Get the text close to you objective, then making the shape should be easier! This is thee way I would do it! As mrbogus said thsi should be done in Illustrator for a real logo... Photoshop can used after to add effect! |

Thanks for the replies... I have been using Photoshop for pretty much everything and I never thought of looking elsewhere... Tweaking the warp effect had until now satisfied my needs. Out of curiosity, are there any other programs apart from Illustrator that do vector based graphics? I would guess Macromedia has something similar, but which one.. =) |

like Mr B said, macromedias vector based graphics program is called "freehand" i've only used it breifly and it seems pretty good. Personally I'd go with illustrator as i am used to how photoshop looks and works making it easier to switch between the two.
