Hey there,

I'm working on developing a website for my Star Wars Galaxies player association. Here's the website address if you'll be a player and might be interested yourself!

http://thantosrebellion.50megs.com/

Lemme see if this works...

Ok - I just tried to paste an image, I don't know if this forum supports that but anyways here goes...

What you should see up there is a square white box with a red star wars rebel symbol in it. Here's what I did in photoshop...

- Created a new file with the "Transparent" box checked, this gave me a small 100x100 file to work with, with that gray and white checkered background which I assumed to mean would be transparent in the end.

- I used the magic wand tool to pick out the rebel symbol from another graphic file and pasted it onto my new file.

- Howevr when I save the new picture, and when I paste it to my website, the background isn't transparent, it's white. Ideally I'd like to only be able to see the symbol and allow viewers not to see the image's background at all.

Ack! Please Help!!

You saved the file as a .jpg. JPG's can't have a transparent background. Only GIFs can have transparent backgrounds.

I thought PNG could also support transparency? And what is the dif between PNG-8 and PNG-24? is it # of colors/bit depth?

Yes, it is.

PNG24s can have an alpha channel (transparency), PNG 8 can't.
