I wanna learn how to use the airbrush tool.... cuz I've never really used it before. Anybody know a good way to learn how to use it well?

I want to do this tutorial... click here to see it. That first step, says to airbrush that, and I have no clue how to do that!

Thanks,
// Matt

well, take a big soft feathered brush, 100-200 and then just go around the outside of your selection then keep coming back with smaller brushes, adding highlights..

to make it look highlighted, do I just go over it with a lighter color? or what?

Do you have a graphics tablet? It definately helps...it gives you a feeling of actual drawing, Wacom even has a pen that looks and acts like an airbrush. Just pick a brush and start drawing. Experimenting with it for a day or two should have you quite proficient. Here is an image I did with the airbrush (kinda warmed over...I already posted it once). I just used one layer and started with a custom gradient and then started drawing away, finishing it all off with a lens flare. http://GrassFolk.homestead.com/sunlensflare.html
Good luck!!!!

WOW... how do you get it to look realistic shading, coloring and everything?? I don't get how people do that with the airbrush... ugh

That looks awesome, btw

Practice!!! I had to slam my head against the wall a few times before I could get things to go right for me. A lot of the shading comes from picking out the size, soft edge and opacity of the brushes....just play around with it!

One suggestion, to get that "highlighted" effect in the tutorial, turn your airbrush mode to "color dodge". In general you can get some interesting effects by doing this.

I find it difficult to do details in airbrush, mostly because i usually blur the hell outta my images. Sure saves time and actually aquring some talent :D
