Hi just joined and just recently got photoshop 7 and could do with some help if possible. Not very good at graphics but willing to learn but need some help. I have this psd file, the artist originally posted them for free download on IBF but now will not help as he has decided to sell designs. What I would like to know is how can I change the colour of the background and also create one myself from scratch. The only thing I have managed so far is to change the text.

To change the color of the background, you simply go to Image>adjustments>hue/saturation. Adjust the hue slider to change its color.

To create a button like that from scratch, you can use the rounded rectangle shape tool in photoshop. You will probably have to adjust the corner radius and leave it at around 2-3 pixels for the corners. Then just drag the tool and make a rectangle.

For the gradient effect, I would duplicate the layer, darken it, then add a layer mask and use the gradient fill tool to mask out half of it. The small bevel look to it at the top is probably just a one pixel width pencil tool line, dragged across the top. I'm kinda making this portion of the reply short, because I'm short on time (at work right now). If you need more embellishment on this, I can supply it later.
