Recently in my quest to find answers to PhotoShop questions, I came across a reference to some software that will let you resample up a digital image. I don’t remember where I saw this reference and have been unable to locate it. Does anyone know anything about this?

You may be remembering hearing about Altamira's GenuineFractals and GenuineFractals PrintPro, which uses a proprietary algorithm to compress files. In other words, if you compress a files with GF, and hand it off to someone else, they need GF to decompress it.

It's most popular and best use is for compressing high-MB images for archiving, because it can squeeze them to such a small size, compared to other compression algorithms, with a smaller loss of quality, saving lots of archive space, and therefore, money.

Altamira claims that their software is good for taking an image and increasing the resolution, so that you can print at a physically larger size while maintaining quality, but the truth is, it doesn't work well for that. A bunch of us ran it through extended testing (I used to work designing and printing billboards and other, even larger images) and it just really ddn't do what we expected.

The bottom line is that there is just no reliable way to up-res images to any significant degree (maybe the CIA or NSA has something, but they're not telling). That's why resolution-independent vector graphics are so important.

Look like you dont know wath resample is... pretty simple...

Resample occure when you modify the size of an image by ading or reducinf the number of pixels.... Ramspling is the mathematical opertion photoshop does in order to create the pixel color...

There is 3 resample mode (IE: The way the new picxel are created)...

Bicubic (default): bicubic change the size of the image by mixin pixel clor with the others aronf it in order to avoid the pixelated felling..its the best mode....

Bilinear : Similar to bicubic but with a bit less quality

Nearest Neiberhood : This is simply make pixel larger....you get a very pixelated ook id you make ithe image much bigger...I normaly avoid this one....

But... resmaple ocure only if the pixel number changer (wich is the default option) if you change the sizr of the image but its amount of pixel unchageed no resmapling ism used... This append when you change the resilution of an images (ex: When I get picture out of my digital camera they are in 77 dpi But when I change its resolution to 300dpi (for print) i dont change the number of pixel... but the image is smaller.

Hope this helped you
