Okay, I'm getting comfortable with bidding on web work, hosting, logos, etc... but now I have a client who wants me to set up their broadband, network the office computers, put in a firewall, migrate data to a new server, etc. What should I charge for an hourly rate for PC work? I already told them it would be more than my design rate ($50-55/hr). Plus, I'm gonna be GUESSING on project hours for all that. Any suggestions? |

setting up all that isnĀ“t that much work, is it now? I would charge my normal rate, like 50 euros/60 dollars per hour. |

I think I'm in the pank range for that stuff. It's not hard, just can be time consuming when you have to start debugging. These peeps are computer illiterate other than using Word and Excel. The reason I don't like doing the PC stuff is because then they expect you to answer every question they ever have and you end up supporting it forever. PC support is a thankless job. I think I'll quote it at $85 or $95/hour and see what they say. Maybe I'll post a question in Misc. I know we have some guys who have worked for places that bill them out for PC stuff. |

Most of the places I've called when trying to fix PC's at work charge like $85 just to look at whatever it is and diagnose the problem, let alone fix it. I think $95/$100 is way too high personally, but it sounds like you don't really want the job anyway, so you might as well just price yourself out of it.

Well, the issue is there's a website, new logo, brocures and business cards all tied into it too. I'm gonna sleep on it. I don't have to get the proposal to them until next week anyways.

Because of my age I tend to get 20 dollars and a pat on the back, but since the design is tied to it, I would just charge them the extra network stuff at the same rate, like just add it onto the hours of work done, to keep things simple.
