i've been browsing in here and other places recently and i just haven't seen anything that i've found at all inspiring or thought-provoking. everything seems to fall into the "we want to be 2advanced/fantasyinterfaces/who's we/etc.", "look at our little pixels and characters", or "we're so cool and grungy and do cool layered photoshop stuff". anybody found any sites that are cool and different and unique and insert-word-of-your-choice?

I completely agree with you. It seems like at least 50% of the sites I saw on here asking to be looked at were more or less the same. It seems to be a big trend now to use frames to scroll the text in the main area of the page that's really skinny, instead of just having a wider, or longer page, and having a normal scrollbar. There were several pages with multiple scrollbars as well. It's a little annoying having to scroll to find the right like, and then scroll again to see the rest of the page.
The majority of the pages I saw have decent artwork. But, without a better layout, it just isn't worth looking at.

Just my $0.02

well it's convenient to use iframes i guess...although i suck at them for some reason. i gotta get off my ass and start learning again. oh well...zelda will keep me on my ass for awhile. but personally i dont think it looks too good to have too much space if you're content is minimal, and i dont like to make too graphic intensive due to load times. although i notice alot of sites dont really watch for their image sizes...

You know I dont surf websites for inspiration much. I usually collect fliers, maybe a magazine ad, etc. I find print material is the best source for ideas and inspiration. Cd covers as well. I stop at the cd stores in the malls and look at Cd covers every so often. Usually anything related to music has cool graphics (well, can have cool graphics. I mean.)

actually, not a bad example, because it IS different. some very weird ideas in there, but also some really good ones, it goes outside the box and is something you remember because of that. good link
