A shuttle pc is complete. Ram, hd, video, sound, nic card. It's a complete plug in and start working pc. Its just that you can't really add to it much becuase they are so small.

The thing I am trying to stress is the more pc's you add the more your life will be hell. Trust me. If you plan it out better it becomes less of a headache. But if you just start slapping on pc's in your network for as little as possible, as soon as you have problems you might be re installing 8 different computers, backing up files off of 5-6 of them, and there goes 2 days of work lost. You've already been there with the viruses. Now imagine adding to the workload with a bunch more computers.

Yeah, if I was the money I would listen to you 100%. But the man with the money is only concerned with the up front cost of things. is this what you're talking about? the lowest I see is $700... http://sys.us.shuttle.com/BuyList.aspx?id=1000&type=u |

http://www.newegg.com/app/SearchProductResult.asp?Submit=Go&DEPA=0 This is what I am talking about. But you'll still need to get monitors and keyboards and mice for them. But you are going to be hard pressed to find a PC with a monitor for under $200. Unless you go to a refurbish junk place or buy something really old. You can probably get a p3 600-800 with a 15" monitor for under $200 - used. |

That link didn't work, it lost the search terms. Did you just search for Shuttle? And the ones I see when searching for "shuttle" don't have ram or hard drives or processors.... :\

Ah, I thought those came with chips. I originally saw them at a store here in Vancouver and they run less than $400 CA: http://www.frontierpc.com/ProductDetail.aspx?productID=950013695 I was under the impression these were complete systems. Guess not =\ But if your boss insists on getting these extra desktops for under $200 he'll be looking at old p3's: http://search.ebay.com/computers_400-650MHz_W0QQcatrefZC12QQfromZR8QQsacategoryZ51108QQsospellrecommendationZ1 Unless some miraculous deal comes thru. If you don't mind my asking, what is the purpose of these? Does your boss really need them? |

They're just to run MSN Messenger for communication, Firefox, and Quickbooks for the finances. And yes, we need them.

well, for the machine I just built myself (i splurged, sorta) I paid around 307 dollars, got shipping free from NewEgg.com Keep in mind, the system I built is a gaming/photoshop rig. Tons of ram and an overclockable cpu. When building systems like that, you don't need to buy a cdrom for all of them. Get a few decent sized disks, you can still find 5 and 10 gig drives for really cheap. Use one cdrom to install software on all the systems. RAM is cheap these days, especially if you go for PC100 or PC133 instead of DDR. You can buy motherboards with intergrated video and sound for around 30 or 40 bucks and you can find p3 cpu's for about 30 or 40 as well. Probably the most expensive thing you will need to get is the cases and any perpheral devices (keyboard, mouse, monitor) |

You could buy an older/used shuttle barebone off ebay and buy the parts on newegg. I just built a pretty sweet (2.6 GHz P4, 512 RAM, 80 GIG, Shuttle SB51G) all for ~$450. So if you spent less on the barebone (I spent $180) and obviously less on the parts, you wouldn't be too much above $200... maybe between $250-$300.

We ordered 5 computers off of ebay... Old PIII somethings... $180 a piece with a 17" monitor, haha. They'll work though. I've already got them setup and everything.
