I'd say its a hardware/driver configuration that screws with the OS so much that it crashes. Not all pc hardware configurations are harmonius. Lots of device drivers for windows OSes are also buggy as heck.

IE 6 on my WIN2000 machine sucked bad. I re-installed windows and left it alone with it's default IE 5. Just do the service packs and you'll be okay without IE 6. It's a waste on WIN2K, IMO. If you can find a way to downgrade your 6 back to 5, go for it - I just don't like to toy with windows that much, plus, I don't know how. The last time I tried my boot, but all it did was leave a big doc martens mark on the side of my PC, didn't help performance at all... :( |

After upgrading from IE5 to IE6 I honestly saw no reason to upgrade. There was no new cool options added to IE6. The only thing I got was an annoying auto-image-resizer and an image toolbar I had to disable. IE6's big draw is supposed to be better cookie management, but I haven't had a use for it. So really, sticking with IE5 is not bad. It seems to have all the good functionality of IE6 minus the annoying new additions. |

The other thing I noticed is how it handles css. Some stuff (like dashed outlines, how it handles widths) was different than the default IE5 on win 2k. I had no problems with IE until I upgraded. So it was definitely a IE 6 problem. Oh well.... |
