Slugul: i think the pixel wars Slugul: need a set grade of criteriea Slugul: ia dieter187: yeah same Slugul: b/c the mattboy v.s. paavo v.s. charm one Slugul: paavo's & charm's was good Slugul: but he could've showed Slugul: what he was painting dieter187: yeah Slugul: and someone picked him Slugul: b/c he said it was funny dieter187: same happent with me Slugul: but the topic and rules said nothing about including humor Slugul: maybe some people don't see humor in Slugul: picasso I think along with the rules of for the challenge, the people in the challenge should make a set of criteria they want to be graded on , that way it will make the challenges more accurate with the winner/loser. i think most of my points are in the conversation... ___________________________ No disrespect to paavo btw |

i always judge for a combination of creativity and image quality. if the image looks great, but has a stupid concept, then I won't vote for it if the other one has the better concept.

I agree but i just do what deker does... For a person to get my vote, i look for... 1. Style - is it origianal or are they being just another trend whore... 2. Do they meet the requirement... size, theme, etc.. 3. Does the piece look like the person put time into it.. or does it look like a 4 minutes job... and a bunch of other stuff... things that make a good decision... IMO... |

Let me get up on my soap box for a minute: ahem.... I posted the challenge, so I'll speak to this challenge in particular as well as Pixel Wars in general. Some of you peeps are missing the point. Pixel wars is not about winning. Flat out, plain and simple. If you think it is... you're wrong. The rules, the voting, the topics are about sparking the imagination, inciting a riot of creativity, and sometimes putting you in a little box and making you design your way out of it. This challenge is one of the best I've ever seen here at teamps (humbly speaking), for 3 reasons--the talent of the participants, the open-endedness of the topic, and the broad interpretation of the subject matter by the participants. There are not a lot of peeps here I would give a topic like that to. But I knew these 3 would see past the topic and it would elicit some interesting art. Saying what was a correct of incorrect interpretation of the quote from Picasso means you didn't even bother reading or chewing on the quote yourself: "I paint objects as I think them..." all 3 artists responded to the topic because of what it made them THINK--humor, abstract, interpretive.... In case you still haven't figured it out, outside of the occassional mano-a-mano, smak-talkin, nail-spitting challenge (like the hurt I'm gonna put on Deker someday soon)--the winners in Pixel Wars are the people who step into the arena and the people who get to watch the artistic results--the losers in Pixel Wars are the ones who get hung up on who won. Of course, I could be wrong--it's just my opinion. |

i'm with dek, pank and malibu. the best part of pixel wars is seeing how different artists approach the same topic.

If you think about it, there is really no point in voting in the pixel wars at all. It is impossible to fairly vote on something as subjective as art. It's just like music. I may think that Box Car Racer is the best band in history, but then someone else may come along and say Jethro Tull is the best band ever. But neither of us is right, and neither is wrong. It is just an opinion. So it's really impossible to declare a "winner" in the pixel wars. The only way anyone ever wins is if there are more people that have the same taste that happen to decide to vote. But if more people of a different taste voted, then the other person would win. It's just a matter of who decides to vote, really.

i think voting for your favorite makes it interesting. though, often i disagree with the outcome. but, i agree with dek. art is too subjective to pick a winner or loser...but on the otherhand, it's not like the loser is shot and the winner awarded with cash. should be no big deal who wins!

Yeah, if we didn't vote, then no one would play. Because it would be kinda boring. I'm just saying... there really can't be a "winner".
