That's what I figured. I 'giving' this older version to someone w/ xp. I called adobe and they don't know, or perhaps they just don't want to think very hard about their older products; somewhat understandable. thanks.

Yup it'll run, why wouldn't it? XP has the backward compatible option.

My copy of 5.0 works on XP with no problems, so 5.5 will work too.

yeah, just emulate an older OS version if it wont install.
