I'm getting sick of Yahoo! email and My Yahoo!....

It has been good to me for several years, but today it's killing me! - it's slow as hell lately, and I'm not getting all the messages sent to me. I've even had some show up days later... Maybe a virus or something at Yahoo's house???

I'm seeking a better freebie email. Does anyone have suggestions? Who uses what here? I know you're not ALL using the company/school computer for those *ahem* "joke" emails.... if you know what I mean.... ;)

How is Excite? AltaVista still around? I'd rather avoid Hotmail, but I'll use it if it's a last resort.

thanks

I use the pop3 accounts provided with my hosting... so I guess I don't have any good ones to suggest.

But you know what they say... You get what you pay for..

can pop3 be read by your company mailserver? If so, is it easy/probable?

I have some freelance jobs that I don't want associated with my company, for various reasons...

Probably can be. I don't know for sure. But with my host, we also have web mail. So it works just like hotmail does. You can download php scripts that do web mail too. just type in the server, and the login pass, and it will check your mail for you.

I ran into these guys a while back, set up an account, but since I already have a gazillion email accounts I never used em. (so not sure how reliable they r.)

www.subdimension.com (sorry too lazy to set up the link)

it's a free and anonymous email account. You just give it a name and pw and thats it!

Well. I'm on dsl, so I actually keep my own pop3/smtp server on. Argosoft (at http://www.argosoft.com ) offers an excellent, free pop3/smtp server. All you need is a free domain, such as from http://www.dyndns.org.

I also use http://www.mailandnews.com a lot. Though there have been quite a few problems with their service. Most notably that they went out of business, but got brought back online by another company. However, its still up, its free, plus they offer pop3 access along with web-based logins. Its pretty much everything you could ask for except the fact that I don't know how long it will continue to exist.
