Hi, Does anyone regularly create PDF files here? Especially downloadable ones? I will need to do this in the upcoming weeks, and I was wondering what software I need, etc. Is Acrobat the ONLY way to go? I've seen tons of shareware and non-Adobe apps for it, but never used any. What do I need to know? thanks! |

The software (beyond actual Acrobat) that I know of that can create multiple page PDFs (that I use anyway) is Pagemaker and Corel Draw. Adobe Indesign and Macromedia Freehand can do it too, but I don't use/have them. Pagemaker PDF creation is as simple as going to the "export" command. You'll need to tweak the settings, but it should be fine. In Corel Draw there's a "publish to pdf" option. Very simple and configurable too. And yeah, both programs can compress print-quality documents down to web-sized ones well. Beyond that, you can export single page PDFs from all the above programs, plus Photoshop & Illustrator. |

nice. thanks - Can you tell me if Acrobat Distiller *is* Acrobat? I've used it, but it's been a couple years. I imagine it's not too difficult. The PDF's from Photoshop I tested are HUUUUUGE in file size, so I don't really want to use them, especially for use on the web. |

From what I've seen, Distiller is "supposed" to be able to turn anything that can be printed into a PDF document. Although sometimes that is not the case, or maybe I don't know how to fully use Distiller.
