This is probably a dumb question, but if you create a project, re save it numerous times while working on it under different names, copy it to different folders several times, and then zip it, upload it, download it on a different pc, then work on it some more and then repeat again (all the above). My question after all this babble is whether this type of saving-resaving degrades the end file at all? ( a file for print work.) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

No. Not as long as you are saving it as a straight .PSD file every time. If you save it as a JPEG or something though, it will get worse because it is being compressed more and more every time you save it.

PSD, EPS, TIF...no degradation, because they use lossless compression algorithms.

Thanks.... wasnt sure if it was like a cd where you burn a copy of a copy of a copy, then you start compiling the errors. ~ does the lossless algo's include zipping files? |

Yes. .ZIP, .BIN, .SIT, .HQX....plus any number of less common compression algorithms that are generally used to reduce file-size for transfer across a network or across the web won't do anything to alter the data or resource structure of your files. When you decompress them the resulting file is EXACTLY the way it was before you compressed it. Lossy algorithms, JPEG in particular when talking about image files, reduce file sizes by literally throwing away data. Recommended for images on the W3 ONLY. |
