Interesting... I have a 1600x2 background image on one of my sites. Wonder if that affects loading.

i tried to make a 2x3 size image or something of that nature and it took forever to load...i learned my lesson

I think what we determined was that it only makes a real difference for the very slow computers -- 486, low-power pentiums. But if you're really into performance, then the very tiny graphic is not as efficent as you may think.

I'd be concerned about it only if you were building a web site with a lot of visitors with low-end computers. The graphic that was the cause for the article was on a web site of an academic association with readers all over the world, many of whom were problably using ancient computers.
