I just reinstalled winXP and activated the guest account, how can I set up passwords for certain applications and websites (or content type) so that the guests can't mess up my files or desktop settings? thanks (i saw it advertised in the re-installation process and sounded useful since my friend downloads and opens anything) |

well, a proxy would be best for the websites part. Mainly because you could compile a list of sites that that specific user is denied access to. You could set the proxy up locally. I beleive XP has this feature built in. As for the applications, you are basically going to need to remove his/her access to the files. I think if you right click on my computer then go to manage, you should be able to do this. If not, there are applications to edit the registry/access control list. If all else fails, just dont let this person see the applications at all. You also might want to turn off the guest account. It will only cause security issues. Create a username and password for this person and set up his access rights there. |

From my understanding of XP, if you put anything in Shared User Files or whatever the directory is called, anyone that uses that computer will be able to use them. So, just dont put them in there.
