from say .exe to .sit or .hqx
Maybe from a PC application like Dreamweaver for instance, which is Dreamweaver.exe to Dreamweaver.sit

haha far as i know, no. You can't make a program made for a MAC work on a PC w/o another special program to read that file. Its like it spoofs that OS on your system or something *sorta foggy on the details

Sorry, you can't 'convert' a program made for one OS to work on another very easily. Which is why they had to create two seperate versions in the first place.

.EXE is the extension that designates an executable file...basically a program that uses code to perform tasks. It's a windows-only file.

.SIT and .HQX are suffixes that designate two types of compression algorithms.

The only way you can run an .EXE on a Mac is to use a program called VirtualPC from Connectix. It emulates the Windows-OS on a Mac. And as far as I know, there aren't any similar emulators for running Mac programs on a windows box.

I really thought the question was about taking a "file" created on a PC to a MAC.... in which case... HECK yeah you can....
Just do it.

But then we got into emulation software.

I know of 2 PC emulators for Mac on the market.

RealPC:

http://www.fwb.com/emu/SW_RealPC.html

and

Insignia Solutions' "SoftWindows"

http://www.insignia.com

Thing is both of them SUCK!

That is compaired to "VirtualPC" for emulating a PC on a MAC.

The deal with Connectix' Virtual PC, as well as the others, I'm sure, is that not only must you have the emulation software, you'll also need a copy of whichever specific Windows OS it's written for. It might be an exact, off-the-shelf version (probably), or it may be modified (not likely, but still possible). Gigantic set of files....Soooo, if there is a trial version, you'll need either a lot of patience of a really fast internet connection.
