PS2 is off the hook! just Metal Gear Solid makes it worth buying it! :D
i also have great games like Tony Hawks 3, Grand Theft Auto 3, Jak And Daxter and Grand Turismo 3...

anyway....PS2 is way better than Dreamcast, if u gonna buy a consol now, i would recommend X-box. i havent tried it yet, but it looks cool

I would buy a PS2 if I had the money. It has the most games out right now, and quite a few great games at that.

Why do the specs matter? If there are some games you like on it, then buy it. It's all about the games, not the graphics.

All three of the major consoles are basically equal as far as graphics power go right now. The PS2 is a little behind the Xbox and Gamecube, but not enough to really matter. The PS2 also has the hard drive coming out soon, and all that linux junk.

I would definitely think twice about getting the Xbox... not only is it made by Microsoft, but it's sales are already failing. It's hardly selling at all in Japan, and who knows what it will do in Europe. And if you have a good PC, you already have all the games on the Xbox anyway.

Deker, if he were to follow your logic, about not buying it because of it's sales, then I'd have to say not to buy a GameCube. I don't know a single person with a GameCube, yet I know of about 5 people who have X-Boxen.

Granted, that wasn't your only argument, I just had to stick my $.02 in.

Actually, If I were to buy a console, i'd buy the PS2 also, only because it's got my favorite games.

It's sales are still good in the US. I just don't think it appeals to Japanese gamers, and it's by far the most expensive console in Europe, which is probably hinder sales. But like you said, the sales don't really matter. If there are games on it that interest you, and you think it's worth paying the $400 for the setup, then go for it. I just have a suspicion that it will go the way of the Dreamcast. (I own a Dreamcast though... )

I actually played one in the store the other day for about 15 minutes. I got used to the controller somewhat. I like the analog stick on it, it has a good feel. The four colored buttons aren't really hard to use like I thought they would be. They don't seem to be too close together really. However, trying to reach the black and white buttons, or the start/select buttons is just stupid. You have to completely change your grip just to stretch your thumb over far enough to reach them. If I played a game that used those buttons very often, I would probably become very frustrated.

Plus the games just aren't there for me. They are all very PC type games. The style, the content, the type of game, everything just looks very PC to me. Plus most of the games are being ported to or from the PC anyway. And that being the case, I would much rather play those games on a PC rather than the Xbox.

When the price drops to $50 in a couple of years, I may pick one up, assuming there will be a game I want to play on it, but right now, I can safely say there isn't a single game on that system that interests me that I can't get on another console, or the PC.

Speaking of PC games... Is anyone interested in WarCraft III? I've been eyeing that collector's edition, but $80 is pretty steep. I'm also interested in Dungeon Siege. Wish I had time to play games... :(

The Japanese bitched about the controller too...so Microsoft shipped a modified, albeit smaller controller with it's Japanese X-Boxen. I didn't like the controller either. It's way too big and clunky. That was my main beef with the Dreamcast too. + when you added a VMU to the Dreamcast, it upped the controller to like 35 pounds.

But the thing with Microsoft in this market is, that they can afford to fail the first time, and even the second time, until they get it right. I think by the X-Box 3, consumers will be far more inclined to buy one since I'm sure by then, Microsoft will really have their sheep together. Same thing with the interactive TV market. There are 2 main competing companies...Microsoft and some other company that is ONLY focused on interactive TV. If the interactive TV market does not grow fast, the other company will have nowhere else to go, where Microsoft has really nothing to lose....if the market for interactive TV fails initially, Microsoft will go for it again when the market IS ready for interactive TV, and by then, they'll have a better feel of what consumers are really looking for, and they'll have a giant advantage over any other companies that are starting up.

I don't even understand why they want to make a video game console in the first place. Just one more thing to dominate I guess. I wish they'd just stick to controlling the PC industry and leave the rest of my life alone.

You can pre-order the collector's edition It comes with a coffee table book, DVD, and soundtrack CD, and other stuff. Pretty cool.
