I use IE on my mac at home, although Opera for Mac is pretty sweet too. I guess I just like having the option to use another browser if one is acting up on me...

I can't download anything but a stupid .BMP with my IE 6. I spent lots of dough on this stock photo site to get hi-res TIFF downloads, and IE just won't have any of that, either. Not to mention it hangs up and gives me error reports like 10 times a day, as well as being slow as hell.

Anyone use netscape 6? I don't mind that either... and yeah, it works pretty good on a mac too. I just don't do AOL. Otherwise, like I said, I like having OPTIONS, and that is the single last thing on AOL and Microsoft's minds right now.

*the next version will probably delete all the non-microsoft, non-AOL apps on your computer on install... just kidding...or am I?

;)

maybe my IE6 doesnt act up because i run winXP, and nothing acts up on XP

you're right though, if all browsers ran on standards and then added whatever they wanted to just as long as it kept the standards running right, that would work just fine.

and yes, a great shirt indeed

it doesnt make sense to me, its the easiest to code for and has the most features..why do other companies just have to make browsers just because they want to.

You ever heard the quote "variety is the spice of life"?

Just imagine how it would be if you would only have 1 choice for an internet browser. Even with MS basically forcing IE down your throat, you still have the choice to use a better browser.

As for features, I think Opera has IE beat an all areas. IE doesnt support user-side css as well as Opera. IE 6 doesnt support Java. Opera has built in Instant messaging that works on both ICQ and AIM Protocol. It has a built in, highly configurable mail client, that is 3 times faster than outlook and uses less resources.

IE Doesnt run on Linux. At all. So, all those Linux users who use it for a desktop should suffer with a textbased browser like Lynx?

Your desire to have one and only one browser is uneducated and ludicrous. Perhaps if IE/Mozilla Developers would stop trying to beat each other out and start working for a standards compliant browser, then there wouldnt be any problems.

Finally, IE is very easy to design for. But I have an issue with a browser that will just draw the webpage instead of breaking it so I can see where it breaks.

ok maybe you dont agree with my opinions but i really dont think that denotes my being uneducated. try to keep it a little less personal- we're talking about browsers here...

but im sorry, ive never used opera, so im not really familiar with its pros and cons.

QUESTION: So is Opera the most Standard Compliant Browser??

Now if people want a browser that is all about standards then why doesn't some one/group do just that??

I know I would love one browser that was completely about standards and I would love to be able to design just for that browser. However as a new domain owner I realized quickly that I have to sway my site towards the Micro end so that I can have the largest possible audience. I don't like having to do this but I'm forced. I don't have a problem with Micro and I like some of the features that I can have on IE and can't get on other browsers. Though this may suggest that I would only design for Micro but that would be a false sugggestion as I wish to design to some sort of middle ground that gives me as much of what I want.

Kay, the answer to your question is a resounding yes. Compared to the latest versions of IE and Mozilla, Opera is the most standards compliant browser. It's the reasons opera is the recommended browser of the w3c.

Bonoma, it's nothing personal, trust me. However, you youself just stated that you have nothing to compare IE to. Ergo, you are uneducated. There are pros and con's to every browser, but you can't possibly make a decision as to what browsers to develop for if you have never used any of those browsers.

and since when is "colored scrollbars and chromeless windows" a design technique?

It isn't. Stop pretending it is.

Possible Solution : All of Microsoft, Netscape and Opera
Merge together to create a universal browser

Chromeless Windows And Scrollbar... They are JUST EXTRA enhancements to a website.
