the pawn shops in my area are crappy and dont sell much..

look at some of the other auctions to see what they charge for shipping. 30 or 40 dollars is vague and computers are fairly heavy.

i've decided to take axiom's advice and build my own. are there any online tutorials that will describe the steps necessary in building one and list the components that need to be purchased?

If you are completely new to building computers, I wouldn't suggest it.
For the most part it is very simple, and you COULD get by just fuddling around (This goes here, so that has to go there, etc), but some of the processes needed to build a comp from scratch probably shouldn't be handled by the completely inexperienced. However, if you do decide to go this route, im sure there are plenty of people on this forum, and others that would be willing to guide you through it, step-by-step. I don't know of any online tutorials offhand.

If you run a lot of systom-resource intensive programs (Basically any graphics program) you may want to consider stepping up your ram, and going with rdram. It's more expensive, but not too bad, and it gives a considerable performance increase.

www.pricewatch.com is a good site (although some shipping is high) that has most of the parts youll need.
