Anyone know of any good software that will partition a 120 gig hard drive? I have partition magic 6 and went to Best Buy to pick up 7 but it says it supports large hard drives up to (80) gig?? So I didn't want to spend the money on something that may not work. If you know of something let me know. Thanks...

I thought I read somewhere that a partitioning utility was part of the operating system in XP?

Maybe it was W2K Pro?.... Anyway... If partition Magic won't do it... ummm, what will?

Download a special-made xp boot-disk here.

The main page for this website (in case you are wary about downloading .exe files without seeing what the site looks) like is here.

This is a common problem with xp in that it comes with no fdisk utility to partition a hard-drive.

I found all this info at www.bootdisk.com when I had to get a partioning prog for my own xp install.

You shouldn't run into any partioning issues with a 120gb size hd as long as your pc's bios can handle that size.

Thanks guys. Torn, yes it comes with a utility (but) you have to have unallocated (sp?) free space already to make a new partition. Mr. B. Ummm, I'll check it out but I don't trust myself to run and fdisk type of deal. It's such a breeze with Partition Magic. Thanks though... I'll keep searching.

C'mon pank. If you can put together websites and do a bit of flash work, dos prompt baesd fdisk is a piece o' cake.

It basically hand=holds you through the scary text only screens anyway.

Create primary partition. Hit "y" to allow it to use the maximum space available, and in like 1 second, you're done.

Of course, after you run fdisk, you gotta format the hd.

yeah but I think I'll lose all my stuff I just spent the last week setting up if I use FDISK. So I'll keep looking. All the pages I have read said that using FDISK will cause you to lose all your data...

fdisk is good for wiping out partitions and recreating new ones. it's not good for partitioning a drive that has data you want to keep on it.

Well I spent the last two hours downloading the demo of PM 7 and it looks like it picked up the full drive. I'll go out tomorrow and get it since it looks like it's going to work after all. Thanks...
