I just finished building a new machine and I was wondering.... Does anyone know how to get my contact l;ist from one machine to the other?.... What files hold that information?.... can I send my contacts to myself?..... Do I have to manually put them back in on the new machine?.... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

If you have upgraded to the newest versions of ICQ, your preferences & contact list are saved remotely by ICQ's servers so that you can install the program on another pc and it will auto-retrieve your settings, just like AOL instant messenger. With older versions of ICQ, you can simply copy over all the folders that are in the ICQ directory after you install the program again. Once you've copied the old folders over top the new ones, re-add yourself into ICQ and all your prefs and contact list will show up again. Actually, your prefs may get destroyed this way (your contact list will remain). This is also the only way to keep your message history. I used to do this all the time, until the newer versions of ICQ. |
