Once I've designed a website, and have it up and around on the net, how do I go about having search engines put my site into their data banks?

Free Solution: Look on the bottom of every search engine for "Submit My Site" button. Pay Solution: Use a pay site where you just enter in your info, and they submit it to them all for you. You can now also easily pay for search engine placement, for top dollar (prob. about $3,000,000) you can guarantee the #1 spot on specific search engines. |

Don't pay one of those search engine submitters to do it. They rarely work. And most search engines charge to be listed now. Yahoo is like $300. Then Overture is buying up everyone and you have to pay per click to be listed on there... It's getting very expensive to be listed on search engines these days.

Yeah I went around and saw how expensive it was. I don't think I'm going to spend the money for that. Anyone have any other ideas on how to get my site out there?

The only search egine worth its salt is google.com. Yahoo, has and always will suck, and it will only get worse charging for listings like that. Same with the rest who charge large sums.

Yahoo may suck, but the majority of internet traffic passes thru there, so if you aren't on there then you are missing a huge opportunity to generate traffic.
