I have a client that wants a bunch of images made for printing on t-shirts and mugs and stationary.

Now I've only used photoshop for web stuff up to this point so I have some questions.

What resolution should I be working at? The photoshop help file mentioned printers using 600-1200 dpi.

Should I use less colours?

And what format should I save it as? Leave it psd or can I just pass them a jpg? (I don't think the client has photoshop).

Basically I don't want to make a bunch of images that look great on the net, but look like crap when printed out.

T-shirts:
is it being run on a big automatic press??

usually u can have more details on those, and more colors

screenprinting usually is done by spot color and each color is a separate screen. more screens = more money.

You know how to do color seps?

Ahh good news, the printing is being handled by third party who has specified the dpi and sizes for everything. Huzzah!

I was gonna say that your printer should give you all that info. If they don't or aren't helpful, find another printer
