Just thought I'd post a couple of really good articles I read today. Found them both over at www.zeldman.com An in-depth essay on seperating style from content, and re-thinking how we design web sites and what we are designing them for. http://www.thenoodleincident.com/tutorials/design_rant/ Another nice article on a similar subject. http://www.awdsgn.com/2002/HTML/CommentJan02.html |

Yeah, I spent about 6 hours last night catching up on my reading from ala and zeldman. Mainly cause I havent read anything from them in about 3 months. I doubt that many of the people here will care to read it though. Zeldman can be kind of cerebral at times and he tends to lose people who don't want to pay attention. There are the select few who will take something away from the article. |

Well Zeldman didn't write the articles, but, agreed, most people here won't read them. It's a shame though... They are really good articles.

Hmmmm....I happen to relish cerebral articles. But then, I wore the badge of "Geek" with pride long before it became fashionable. ALA and Zeldman rule. |

I must admit, after being demolished in high-school by an unforgiving book after book after book english teacher, I pretty much lost what little appreciation for reading that I had. Though simple articles aren't nearly as bad.

indeed U23. I like reading articles where someone puts some thought into it. To me, they Zeldman and ALA writers don't seem like they are using buzz words to impress the readers. It's more that they know what they are talking about and the language they use is the language they understand.

Until today, I had only read Zeldman's stuff in other mags and sites. I like him because he weeds out alot of the crap that 9 out of 10 web designers have told me "you have to do." I'm going straight to his site for web design advice from here on out. Everyone else is strictly amateur. I now have it bookmarked on all three of my workstations, home and office. thanks for the links, deker. |

Oddly enough i'm in a fight...er debate..over his "The tyranny of 1024 x 768" on another board I happen to agree with him. Generally speaking pages SHOULD work for 800x600. You might miss out on some image space (width) but geez, if you have all the space you want up and down. People don't mind scrolling down a bit, make sure your navigation is above the 440 mark and you'll have no problems. |
