Hey fellas.....This is a questions for you pros out there. If I havent told you , I lost my job right before Christmas. I have talked to a guy about doing freelance graphic and web design and he loves my work, but wants me to send him an e-mail telling how much I charge per hour and how much I would charge for a 50 hour block of time....I have done very little freelance work and am not sure what to tell him.....I'm afraid to highball him and have him say no thanks, but I have to put food on the table....An hints would be appreciated........

Thanks guys,

Jim:confused:

If you don't "at least" see andrew jackson's face EVERY hour... you are selling yourself short...note the "at least". I wouldn't type "A" word for less that 20 bucks an hour.

A block of 50 hours....?

Nope, sorry not for less than $20 an hour.

good enough hint?

I'm a KTM man myself :D

I charge as a standard $65 per hour with a one hour min., but offer discounts to my good clients. As for smaller stuff I am flexible (business cards etc), and will charge according to the client.

With most new clients I will undercharge them a little at the beginning, than if things progress (more jobs) raise my prices slowly to where I am comfortable.

I have never been told my price was too high; most of the time people think I don't charge enough . . . but they always come back

I can't charge $65 around here... but I charge well more that that $20 per hour minimum. I also did a little digging and found that Alabama is at the bottom of yet another list.... Wages.

Hey Jim~ I personally don't have any experience with the subject (I'm an amatuer designer--I'm training for the 2004 Olymics, though). So I asked a friend who's a web developer, here's his response--hope it helps.

To answer your question, a charge of $35 to $65 per hour for Web design and/or development is normal based on skills and experience. Some companies charge up to $150 per hour for Web work, but that seems unrealistic for an individual developer.
