What have you done to advertise yourself?? What's your mission statement?? What can you bring ot the table that all the others can't?? have they ever seen your work?? Is your work at a level that is appropriate for these business you wish to be clients??

There are a lot of questions, start getting answers.

I'm not about to work on my own for the time being. I tracked down a steady job and am employed by somebody else.

I just sent resumes, went for interivews, and brought along a portfolio for my own method of getting work.

Not sure how easy/hard it is to be a self-employed web designer, but it certainly does seem hard to do in this current harsh internet technologies environment.

From a past post by Charm.. (I think)... it may also not be EXACTLY the way he put it... but you'll get the picture.

Do a couple "good" sites for free....

Do a great job....

Put you name on them....

Show them to prospective clients.

Why do they need a site?? How will it help them in having one?? etc, etc...

Sending them an email with a link to a site that you've done isn't going to make them want one, and if it does they still do not have a reason to need one. You have to make them feel that they need one and that you are the person to do it!

It's all about needs and wants and you have to make them believe that they NEED IT!

you could volunteer.

(that's what everyone tells me)

"It gets your name out there. People will notice" Blah, Blah, blah

Not a bad idea, though. Let me know if it works......

I would recommend the following:
advertise online
search engine submission
Offer your services free to npn profit organizations and community sites.

Network with other designers too.
