No, the boards (which supposedly were REAL) in Back to the Future 2 were based on a magnetic, polar, geo-magno thingy. They never marketed them, however, because supposedly they were too dangerous.

If I had one of those I'd rig up a nice 25HP Briggs & Stratton with a Centrifugal Clutch and I'd be flying along at a good 45 MPH or more.

I have heard that back to the future matel hover boards did exist. Matel had a huge response and made some for sale. Even a few years ago like 5 or 6 i saw one at the flea market. I have heard that they were very unpopular because they didnt really work.
Maybe they come out and really work. Maybe Pepsi will come out with those neat drinks holders like in the back to the future II.
