My access has been out since Friday afternoon. I get service through Comcast, the local cable company. Apparently they weren't as prepared as some other companies... Who know when it'll be back up. If they don't have it up in the next few days though, I'm switching back to DSL. It just became available in my area.

Yes, I called them and they are claiming it's not because of the Excite stuff. But I called from work, so they told me to call when I get home so they can "Check my settings". Because, you know, they are known to just change themselves sometimes....

"Ok, now what I want you to do is reboot your computer and unplug your modem. This is called powercycling your modem (aka wasting time so I have a chance to read this book and figure out what to do next)."

From what I heard, AT&T was trying to buy Excite@Home, but you know how anytime AT&T tries to buy anyone, it winds up in court...

AT&T@Home customers, such as myself are S.O.L. as of this weekend. Many Comcast@Home customers have been switched over to Media One. We'll see what AT&T cooks up....

Til' then I'll only be able to check in from work from time to time.

Every day at work, I worry about what is going to happen when I get home.

Am I going to have service? Am I going to be down?

I'm guessing by now that my service is not going to end. If it does, we have another cable provider in town that will be glad to pick up the ex-@Home customers, and they'll have us going within hours.

I still don't have a 'net connection at home. Been down since Friday afternoon. This is starting to get annoying. I think if it is not up today, I will be calling bellsouth for some DSL.

Why so long?

I already have a modem from when I had DSL at my old house, so I would hope they can just flip a switch to turn it on this time.

This is gonna hurt....but you'll stay online, and it's free.

my ISP went out of biz a few months ago, and here's what I did.

(If you have an old 56Kmodem) - here's the plan.

1)Go to wal-mart or target and pick up a silly little AOL CD ROM freebie. Use it for a DIAL UP ONLY!! (unless you like that junk browser...)

2) set up the crappy little program - it's free for a month or whatever - (if a grandma can do it, you can, too) run it for a few weeks. You might get 56K, more likely 38K or so. 3)Then, once your crappy new Big-Brother-Broadband company is set back up, ditch all the AOL. (See if you dig the new rules, speeds, service for the Broadband, first.)

4)**BE SURE TO WRITE DOWN WHEN YOU ACTIVATE, SO YOU CAN CANCEL WITHIN 30 DAYS** (chances are, they'll give you another free month when you cancel, if you want it. I didn't.) Otherwise, they'll gouge you like they do a zillion other people.

Please don't tell me I'm the only one who thought of this?!

...told ya it was gonna hurt. Take it or leave it. Playstation is another good option, too.
