I enjoy taking pictures, though I don't have a nice camera. Eventually I will probably get a Nikon, but that is a ways down the line.

Hey there,

I have been taking digital photos since early '98 with several different brands and budgets, do you have any specific questions I can try to help out with?

Just for future reference, I am mostly familiar with the Nikon CoolPix 900, the Fuji 600 series, and the older Sony Mavicas. I have dabbled with a few others, though.

Whatever you are wondering about, I'll try to help out.

I"ll toss a question in as i'm kinda looking for a digital camera when my budget allows it, any recommendations on a solid reasonably cheap camera? I'm looking for something to shoot with for doing web and a bit of print work. I've done a decent amount of research and i'm considering a Sony DSC-P50 at the moment, any other thoughts?

Chris

sure, here's my 2 faves:

1. the fuji 650 was great for web and a little print work. It came highly recommended to me from a photo pro who used to shoot for playboy and other large mags. (he uses the 30 thousand dollar + cameras for that, though...) I don't know that it is still available, but I'm sure Fuji has similar ones available. Their mid grade cameras should run anywhere from 300-700 USD.

2. Nikon CoolPix 800, 900, 995 ( basically the same cameras, with a few bells and whistles different) - I like these because they don't have a SmartCard, (oxymoron of the century, in my opinion) they use CompactFlash memory cards instead. MUCH more durable. Unfortunately, these are more expensive than most Sonys and Fujis, too. Check out eBay for price trends, I could be wrong.

Hope that helps. I took some killer print photos with both models.
I have a buddy who has that Sony model, and I think he really likes it. I guess it just comes down to the storage media you prefer, and price. Sony is nice, since it's common. In the event you have any problems, you'll be in good shape.

a great camera source is www.KEH.com.

let me know if I can help further

My boss just pre-ordered the Olympus E-20N at the end of October. He says it takes AMAZING photos. He's been into photography for quite some time, so I trust his opinion...paid about $1800 for it, but he said it's one of the best investments he's made in the past couple years in a camera.
