Does anyone know anything about DVD players? Does anyone have one?

I just bought one this evening. I got a Sharp. It's silver.

Though it is very aesthetically pleasing, and matches my TV, it seems to have been built solely for that purpose, and not for playing DVDs correctly.

So anyway, I was wondering if it is common for the sound on DVD players to 'skip'. It sounds like it is cutting in and out of stereo and mono, or the volume is fluctuating, or something. It actually just sounds like a CD skipping, but the video is still fine. All the DVDs are brand new, with no dirt or scratches. And it's just plugged into my TV without any other interruptions. It seems to happen at random. Not in certain spots or anything.

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone had a similar experience, before I take it back to Circuit City tomorrow and get another one.

No, it's not common, definitely shouldn't be doing that. I'll second the Sony recommendation and also add that my Toshiba player is really solid. Definitely worth the bit more it may cost for the quality.

I like my Sony DVD player. It's model # PlayStation2. Only problem is it's hard to get the kids to stop playing GranTurismo 3 so I can watch a movie.... anyone else having that problem with their DVD player?

Take it back Dek: brand wise, they're all Japanese and made of plastic anyways.

I took it back. Getting a Panasonic. It will be in tomorrow. Hopefully it'll be better. I looked at the Sonys, but none of them had MP3 decoding in my price range. Gotta have MP3s....

Got the Panasonic... It's pretty sweet. I recommend it. The remote control doesn't look as cool as the Sharp's though... :( Good picture and everything though. I got one of those Component cables. Makes a big difference.

I think it's worth it, yes. The colors seem a lot more vivid, and the black and white is much better. I watched Nightmare Before Christmas with the composite cable, and then the component cables, and it was much better. Seemed clearer as well. Definitely worth the $20 cable.
