Hi... As being a complete newbie to graphic design as well as photoshop, I'm finding it quite difficult to design anything appealing or imaginative. What sites, tutorials do you recommend to get started with graphic design? Also, do you know any good articles that are a guide to basic color matching? When you guys all started what were you designing? Random things? Specific logos? Websites? And finally, how long would it take the average person to make a site that is as visually appealing as this one is (the main site + forums). By this I mean, how long would it take to become a standard where you could make this sort of thing? Thanks for any help! -Peter |

look outside. look out the window. look in a dumpster. look up at the sky. look at a chinese take out menu. go to an art gallery. look into your dog's ear. look at a 1950's encyclopedia. look at yourself. look inside a vacuum bag. look at a magazine. look out the window again. go to the zoo. go to the bank. go to a gas station. go to a hotel. go to the beach. look at the work of art's great masters. look at posters on the street. whatever you do, don't look for inspiration in a photoshop book or tutorial website. |

Charm hit the nail on the head. Inspiration is EVERYWHERE.... but not on tutorial pages... Tutorials will only give you insite into using photoshop.... NOT DESIGN. My designing portfolio consist of Newsletters, Newspapers, Annual reports, Magazines, Brochures and things of that likeness. That said, I struggle makeing a Website that doesn't look like a newspaper. (or some of the before said pieces) But.... I'm learning. Look for information on "color theory" and "design concept" on any search engine and you'll find some reading that will help. It all comes down to Charm's response though.... You LIVE your inspiration. *Looks out the window again* :D |

That'd be a pretty tough job for one guy...I think you need a Vice-President.
