Omniweb huh? Okay, I just downloaded the trial version to see what it's about. If I like it, it's only 29.95, so it's not that bad of a deal. Thanks man...and I have no clue where you find all this stuff at, cuz I've never heard of some of the stuff you use...but it's great! Cheers! |

So what exactly does OmniWeb do that is way out there? Sell me on this guys? I'm on it, and it feels better for some reason, but what can you do with it? Does it use extensions like FF or what's the big hoo-ha about it? When I go to send an email I don't have the toolbaar for typing out and changing fonts or font colors. Not that it's a big deal, but I'm just wondering why it's missing. Is it because people like Google didn't program their stuff for OmniWeb? I'm just wondering what this sets this browser apart. I'm always looking to view code, from CSS to XHTML, and getting to photos quickly, and basically my focus is on it like the Web Developer Tool Bar in FF where you can view all the code. Desing matters to me, as well as news and feeds, so how does this put it all together? Any info would be great, thanks. |

I like it because it's faster than any other browser I've used, and I really like the tab thumbnails. Open up a new tab and you see a little thumbnail of what the page looks like so you don't have to rely on the title of the page to know what it is. You can set per-site preferences, so if you only want things to behave a certain way on one site, you can do that. You can also "skin" sites by using your own custom CSS file like this: http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk/journal/os-x-skin-for-bloglines You can't use that rich html editing thing in Safari either. It just hasn't been programmed to utilize it. It has built-in ad-blocking if you want to use that, but I don't. It saves the sessions, so if the browser crashes you just open it up again right where you were. I have 9 tabs open right now. I could just quit the browser and open it up again tonight, and all my tabs would still be there. A lot of other browsers have those features now though. The code viewer is really nice. If you view source, you can make changes, then click re-load or something and it reloads the page in the browser with your changes. So you could go to CNN.com and then change all the headlines, press a button, and it looks different (just on your computer of course). But it's handy for design. You can also setup workspaces, I have one for web design, one for my daily reads, one for various stuff, one for school, etc. You just press a key command and it reloads all of the tabs, so you can keep them separate. |

Okay November is almost over and I still haven't purchased a freakin' license to Omniweb. What else can be said to convince me? Basically I use the Web Developer toolbar in Firefox to view lots of information in regards to CSS. Does Omniweb offer this? I'd also like to know how to import my bookmarks so that they show in my bookmarks label on top. And the reason I say November is almost over is because the $10 dollar deal is almost up...convince somone!!! Deker maybe? Cheers! |

I don't want to convince you just for the sake of convincing you. It might not be for you. If you are happy with Firefox it might be the browser for you. Have you downloaded the trial version? That should give you a good idea if it's worth purchasing or not. I personally like the visual tabs and the saved sessions and different profiles of tabs for different tasks, but that may not be valuable to others. The thing where you can edit any page and immediately see changes is also really handy for web design. |

Deker, thanks for your reply man. I have downloaded the trial and I've been running that. It's a really nice browser and I've read lots of good reviews on it. It is faster, and feels leaner with a cleaner appearance. I like it, but I see myself using Firefox as well for other tasks. I'll have to make up my mind today though to get the super deal. We'll see what happens. Thanks for your input, it's always appreciated. Cheers! |

Hey man, I have some questions here about a mac freezing. Now granted I'm loving the mac, but today it froze on me and I had to hold the power button down. This has happened to me before, mainly when I'm using Firefox and I would normally hold down APPLE>OPTION>ESC> then the (,) symbol and I can see what's not responding. However, today nothing happened. I came home, opened my powerbook (it was sleeping) and it was just frozen and seemed to be the browser unable to download a site correctly. I'm not sure, but when I see/hear about macs not needing to restart, I'm not sure that's true, like when I see the ads on Apple.com. What can I do to prevent this, I have no system hacks on here and I'm on a Powerbook with the PowerPC 1.67GHz, if that helps any. Oh and by the way, I came across this site here while researching my situation on Google. The site is: http://macheist.com/ Cheers! |

Macs can crash or freeze up just like Windows, but it very rarely happens. Especially rarely does the entire system kernel panic causing you to reboot. I've seen it happen a handful of times in my several years of using Macs. Most of the time a single program will have a problem, and you just force quit it like you said. If you had a black screen show up in several languages saying you need to reboot, that was a Kernel panic. Normally this is a software issue, but could be related to bad RAM or even a logic board as well. If it happens really frequently, you may want to try doing an archive and install of your operating system using the discs that came with the computer. An archive and install creates a backup of the operating system and installs a new copy. It does not delete your files or anything, just the operating system. If some of the files the OS needs have become corrupted then it may cause a kernel panic. Other things to try would be using disk utility which is in the applications > utilities folder and tell it to repair disk permissions. Or if you've recently installed/removed any software applications, it could be linked to that. If you didn't see that kernel panic screen, the system could have just not gone to sleep properly. Like say you closed the lid but it didn't latch immediately and bounced back up, the computer could have not got the signal to go to sleep or something. Or if you manually told it to go to sleep through the apple menu then shut the lid before it was done going to sleep, that can cause problems too.
