Hi,

I wasn't sure where to ask this to get a good opinion, then i remember this awesome forum from when i used to do web design and thought this would be a good place.

Anyway, a friend of mine found this and was thinking of getting a painting done http://www.picstopaintings.com . Now im almost convinced that the guy is using filters but she doesn't believe me. She links me to this which shows his process http://www.picstopaintings.com/process.php Now im kinda in 2 minds. It could be legit or he couldve just worked backwards.

So does anyone know if his for real or not?

Thanks

you can nearly get result using a photoshop filter effect... fiddle around with the cutout settings and it comes close...

It is possible that some people are just that tallented... For example, a long time member of TPS, eyeWOO, does stuff very similar to this. You can check out his website - http://www.eyewoo.com/ - and see that it is a very similar process with the same results.

So it is very possible, however whether the place is legitimatly painting the stuff is another question. You could ask them to supply the PSD file after the "painting" is finished. That would probably be the only way to see if its actually "painted"

I know with Philip @ http://www.eyewoo.com , you can actually see the brush strokes in his detailed views of his work. This guy (gal) doesn't even tell you his name, or who he is. Tell her if she's really thinking of investing her money in this I (we?) strongly recommend she contact Philip @ eyewoo and talk with him first. I wouldn't hesitate to work with Philip.

I agree 100%. However she is probably going to have to wait for a little while. As of right now Philip isn't accepting any new requests for stuff... but I'm sure if you said that we recommended you to him, he wouldn't mind putting you on the waiting list or something

I don't really understand the issue here. Personally I don't they use filters - but even if they were - so what?
Does the final image look any less nice?

Are you creating the Mihai plugin? You could use a break while the computer does it all :p

To me the final images look very messy/low quality, very "dry brush". If it isnt a fake (i highly doubt that) its a very poor excuse for a hand painted pic.

Also I find it interesting that when you overlay the final/original, not a single pixel changes position. Nobodys hand is that accurate, even if you paint over the original.
