Spectra I have a question here. When it comes to helmets I noticed in magazines or sites that most MTBikers use the helmet with a visor. Some actually have it clip on to make it optional. Most road bikers don't have a visor, and my guess is that it's due to the riding position. Road bikers tend to be in a more aerodynamic position and need to look up, where the visor would get in the way. But is the visor necessary for mountain biking or can I use one without a visor? Just wondering because I saw a good deal on a Giro helmet at my local shop and was wondering if I needed the visor. I just don't want to wear the wrong equipment for the wrong ride. I'm wondering if the vents are different as well? When you have time, maybe you can shed some light on this issue here. Thanks! |

Zerimar, The visor, for the most part is completely for style. It has the possibility to maybe deflect a tree branch, but really, its just to look better. As for ventilation, the more vents, the better air flow you have which makes it a lot cooler but also costs more. Giro makes a nice helmet and anything from them should be a good buy. |

Thanks spectra, I didn't think the visor was all that necessary but I did figure it offered more protection for the eyes from tree branches as you said. But I have seen some MTB riders, mostly women without visors. So I don't know about this MTB etiquette :D Anyhow, thanks for the info, I'm looking around. I got my shoes yesterday and now I'm off to get the cleats for the clips. Cheers! |
