The Longhorn Explorer features a left-most pane of Lists and AutoLists, a breadcrumb navigation bar, instant filtering with an integrated Search box, and quick file preview at the bottom of the window. http://www.winsupersite.com/images/showcase/lh_explorer_demo_01.jpg Fast Search results let you sort by custom metadata ("Reference" in this example). http://www.winsupersite.com/images/showcase/lh_stacks_demo_01.jpg Stacks let you dynamically group documents and files so you can view the same data in multiple ways. http://www.winsupersite.com/images/showcase/lh_fast_search_demo_01.jpg A more communicative non-responding application. http://www.winsupersite.com/images/showcase/lh_proto_gallery2_reliability01.jpg SyncManager will support smartphones, MP3 players, PDAs, notebook computers, and other devices. http://www.winsupersite.com/images/showcase/lh_proto_gallery2_syncmanager01.jpg |

Yes Chris, but your bias is blinding you from the start. Longhorn is the answer to the world's prayers, and will save all from damnation and provide salvation. Wake up, and listen to the word of Preacher Matt!

When is it coming out? It's already so far behind I think they lost some of the anticipation. But I'm sure once it comes out the warm fuzzy feeling will return to those who lost it.

sarcasm aside (which i did enjoy btw) i'd actually love to be able to run a couple windows only programs (softimage xsi for one) but i'm moving towards finding alternatives the more i've used OS X. i wasn't REALLY a mac guy until like about a year ago, was pretty indifferent til i really got into OS X on a daily basis. and right now it's 2006 for longhorn client and 2007 for longhorn server. i think that may be what's gotten me less than excited, the timeline is excruciatingly long and apple is continuing to pump out OS X updates with tiger coming out in the next few weeks... chris |

It looks pretty, but I have a fear that it will have even more of XP's little 'helpful' pop-ups, and that, coupled with the various system wide 'integrated' (?!) search functions, and the fact that they're making this thing intentionally graphics heavy means that I CAN NOT imagine that this will be a fast program, without having at least a gig of ram. Which I, and I believe most people, do not, at this point. That being said, if it is truly new from the ground up it will either be infinitely better than current windows, on a new, capable machine. Or, it will be riddled with bugs that won't be fixed until the second version comes out 2-3 years later, at the rate they're moving forward on it. Maybe by the time this comes out, 2-3 gb of ram will be the market minimum, and this thing wont bog down your system that much. |

In four years i am sure 2-3 gigs will be pretty common, i don't know about the market minimum though. Nos. |
