Hey guys... I've found a few examples of good fantasy cartography (maps). And I found a interesting tutorial for creating the look of old world woodcut printing techniques here. I'm looking for any other how-to's anyone knows of for drawing maps like in the front of a fantasy novel. For those of you who know, yes, this is for my wife's book. It's due out in April. I've been given the task by the publisher of doing the cartography for the book! Kewl, huh? Now I just have to figure out how to do it! Grayscale won't work, it needs to be black and white. Oh, and it has to look really kewl! Examples of excellent work are welcomed also, for reference. |

If you can - get your hands on a LOTR dvd - the collector's edition thinghy - they have a nice menu (paper) with nice maps. The cover itself is nice and leathery (fancy cardboard) :D Also any of the Thieves World or Dagger series books by David Drake (or edited by him don't remember) have a lot of maps inside - they kinda look like the ones in your link. They also have little insets on the edges of the covers that I find most appealing. I think they were published by Ace (my editions) |
