Aviation enthusiasts...... Holy smokes.....The Xprize has been won!!??? I've loved avation before I could a,b,c & this is simply amazing. Caught the whole flight on discovery channel this morning. The double stage aircraft/rocket made by Mr. Bert Rutan is a refreshing cost effective concept IMO. Great design. catch more info @ http://www.xprize.org/ Regards Fess |

ah yes - they gave them the money. Spaceship one rules! It's just like a Buck Rogers starship. I loved it when it first showed up in the media. I'm loving it even more now. Boy does this mean we're going to be able to buy a second hand Beetle starship after all?....in my lifetime? When I was a kid I was imagining that in the year 2000 we'll all have spaceships - just like in Heinlein's books.... edit= I know I'm not being a nice boy...but it's just too much. Take THAT NASA hah! Die stupid shuttle program, die! |

And it's pleasant to look at instead of the attached oversized adult novelty item.

Virgin airline inc. must have shelled out a hefty sum to have their decal slammed onto the ships orbiter. Its very possible that they will undertake the task of "space tourism" in the next couple of years. Hmmmmm......ticket price? Who the hell knows. Just like XP, I think I'll let them work the bugs out before I hitch a ride on that vomit comet :D Fess |

haha vomit comet well - it's good that it finnaly opens to way for private entrepreneurs. Space should be for people not institutions. Like the wild west...risk a lot - gain an awful lot...pave the road for "civilization" Maybe there'll be a lot of pioneers now. I just hope to God that Rutan won't sell to NASA - they'll bury it under so much paper it'll never see daylight again. |
You know, now that we have a spaceship that can go into outer space ... where the **** are we going?
aaah - the asteroid belt my friend - the bounty land - the milk and honey of the new era... no more strip minning - no more heavy industry polluting the old dirtball. you know - there's huge chunks of nikel, iron, anything you want - just floating around in space -you have solar pover - by the bucket, there's ice to make air and water....and if you have that and trace elements in metals....you have the start for an arcology - you can live there... indefinitely. You take a huge loan, buy a spacesuit for you and one for the wife, buy a spaceship and a few generators...go up in the belt, pop an airbaloon tent, start making runs through the asteroids, find a chunk of high grade iridium ore, sling it down in the backyard of the bank you took the loan from....and you're all paid up. Then take another loan, buy a solar smelter...make finished products and throw them down in the gravity pit...make a lot of bucks....get your family up, start a drum colony....grow grass...make an amusement park for the other miners..... *changes sig to "Have spacesuit - Will travel" |
