Ooo this looks interesting..

http://wwws.sun.com/software/looking_glass/demo.html

Download the movie, skip through the boring stuff at the start and watch the demo. I want! Reminds me of OSX, but in 3D

the notes feature is a good idea. Also it looks easier to manage than most sticky note progs now. But the rest.......i dont know. Not really for me i guess, i kinda want a minimal, basic lookin interface, this looks cluttered.

Also does anyone else see this as kinda cheesy?? Like in 1995 this would be great, but i get the feeling that technology is better than this. It's kinda like in the future we'd all be driving flying cars, and even if we all had personal jets instead......we'd still be trying to strap wings the the back of a rusty chevette.

that is so cool. I love the features!
I'd probably get tired of it after a week or two - I also like to keep the work environment as minimal as possible and just focus on the actual work I'm doing without being distracted by all the glitzy smooth cornered little pieces of stuff flying around but lots of times I am supposed to give presentations and man that would wow some of the crappy, lowIQ clients I get. I mean - I remember when I put an animated gif file on the desktop of a client that featured his 3d rotating logo....he called about 10 employees to show them "what a real proffessional can do" muwahaha. It is cheesy as hell but .... did you see how all the audience went "aaah" and started clapping their hands when the dude rotated the videofile playing on the desktop? That's marketing for the masses and sadly...most clients are like that

They clapped cos they're nerdy little geeks, who, like the presenter, have ponytails and goaties. They prolly creamed their pants when they saw that.

Yeah clients can be annoyng...99% don't trust youre ability and have no artistic experience and you end up with a job that looks as cheesy as hell and something that you're not even proud of. And then there's the good clients, a breath of fresh air

a lot of it looked pretty cool but some of the features were kinda useless, i don't want a working environment if it slows me down.

I think the idea is to come up with something 'exciting' enough to get the world excited about Open Source OS's. The techno-geeks like Linux for server and web boxes... but there's nothing interesting enough to capture the heart and imagination of the general public. Mac tries to do this with OS's but keeps it locked down and proprietary. I applaud Sun for continuing the battle for an Open Source desktop that can take over the world!

*wonders how much processing power does a live running video icon take...and if there's any point in having one*
