..but now that i am doing CSS-based sites, it is a real pain. I have to make sites that look crappy in FireFox for the sake of IE users (a very large majority, mind you). This is very frustrating. (I have a very specific problem if any of you CSS gurus would like to have a gander at it - meliorative@hotmail.com) Nos. |

IE is a big ****ing pile of ****. It crushes my spirit on a daily basis and makes me loathe web design. Unfortunately I also gain enjoyment from creating web sites, so I must deal with IE. There is a special place in hell for the people that made Internet Explorer. And it isn't a nice area. It's like the ghetto of hell. And the only way to get around is by using "InterHell Explorer". And every time you use it, it sticks a hot poker in your eye. ****ers.

What we got here is a classic Chicken/Egg-style conundrum. So many people continue to use I.E. which is clearly inferior, so web developers continue to create content with IE users looming large in their rearview mirrors. I'd be happy if all instances of Internet Explorer just winked out of existence for about a week, thereby forcing complacennt users to research other, better options. |

You'd think the gaping security holes, spyware, adware, pop-ups, government warnings, efforts of WaSP, lack of features, etc would have some affect on people's choice of browser. But I guess not... They "just click on the blue E" when they want to get on the "internet" and that's all they care about. BAh!!!!

I agree. I'm done sticking up for Microsoft in this area. At both work and home I have made Firefox my default browser, and removed the IE shortcuts from my desktop and my quick launch area. I have even retrained my wife how to use the internet (she didn't get the 'not using IE' thing, she doesn't understand the concept of a browser, she just calls it "the internet").

I've told almost everyone who comes to me complaining about spyware on their PC. Quit IE and use Firefox. But their asses won't budge. Oh well, if they're pleased with the constant popups, nice malware that clog up their resources so be it. Don't say I didn't warn :D

my boss had a ton of that **** on his computer. i ran adaware and stuff and it found over 300 infected thingies. i ran spyware search and destroy and it found some more. but IE still hijacked his homepage and said the internet was dead all the time (because I tried to uninstall it? I don't know). one of them even replaced google's ads with their own! crazy! so i installed firefox and made it his default browser and everything and he of course hasn't had anymore problems. firefox is exactly the same as IE as far as people that think ie is the internet are concerned. i don't know why they can be so stubborn about it. it's not like they are ie "power users" or anything. |

oh, great, nos. You got deker started. :D but seriously, no kidding that IE sucks like that. I made the exact same discovery when i first started doing CSS. The point now - now knowing css - is not to make a site look the exact same in both ie and firefox (that's damn hard when making some of th emore complicated sites). The point is to make a site that looks good in both, even though maybe both dont look the same. unfortunately it will call for sacrifices, but what can you do. :P |
