I use AVG on the computer at work. It's really small and doesn't slow down the system like norton. It puts a tagline at the bottom of all your emails if you use Outlook though.

Another nod to Trend Micro PC-Cillin. Its by far the best AV software out there. Its small, doesnt cram your resources, and it has pretty nice firewall software built into it.

Still waiting to hear a well-reasoned explanation about why it's "good" for your computer to reformat the boot drive 2 - 3 times a year.

Not being antagonistic, just curious how you guys justify such a huge pain in the arse.

I've only reformatted when moving from OS 8.6 ---» OS 9.2.2.

Then, on that same hard drive from OS 9.2.2 ---» OSX 10.3.3.

That's two write-to-zero reformats since 1997.

Otherwise, I've never seen any great pressing need to, as long as I do my regular maintenance routines.

u23, it's good because the Windows registry gets so clogged full of **** that you have to start over just to use the full speed of your computer. That's the only reason I ever did it when I had Windows. And I don't think there is any other reason other than that.

I hope I will never get an enema.

But on the less disgusting side, I think I'll reformat here in about 2 weeks.
