Check this out... true story...

I'm eating dinner last night and hear this sound outside. Like a car bumping into another car over and over and so I look out the window to see what in the hell all the noise is about.

Now, keep in mind that this is in a typical middle-class Amercian neighborhood on a cul-de-sac where traffic is generally slow to non-existent and kids play all around the yards and in the street here (my own 5-year-old included).

What I see as I look out my window is a badly mangled car that has come to a rest directly across from my house in my neighbor's yard. The driver is an elderly man with a cane who got "said cane" stuck on the accelerator as he was coming down the street. He had about 60 yards in which to get his vehicle up to an insane level of speed before he started to do any damage.

On this little joy ride, he proceeds to clip and break a fire hydrant and street sign, then cruises through another neighbor's yard, hits the neighbor's parked full-sized pick-up truck (with "said neighbor" in the back of the truck) spinning the truck 180 degrees around throwing the neighbor clear from the vehicle. The car continues on and plows right over a medium-sized tree and set of bushes only to hit the next neighbor's car pushing it 90 degrees from where it was parked and finally comes to a halt just before the next neighbor's yard where there are small kids outside playing.

The neighbor in the truck had only mild scrapes and bumps and not a single person was hurt in the incident other than that which is incredible. But you can imagine the shock of seeing such an incident right in your own front yard.

I think someone should have taken the cane away from the old man. If that makes him immobile, you can understand why that's something to be preferred.

Not the same story, but pretty close, plus visuals

If it had a map during that walk through, it would've been awesome. I wish I had a front lawn ... all I have is a busy 10 lane boulevard that kills people. :(
