This is a sad story. Pat Tillman killed in combat. I wish more athletes would be like this guy.

Really should give us all a reality check. Especially NFL players like Clinton Portis, Eli Manning, Warren Sapp, Keyshawn Johnson. They could all learn a lesson from this soldier.

I hope they name a stadium or an award after Pat Tillman.

Name a stadium after him? I wouldnt go that far, but I live in phoenix, so the news channels are all over it, because he ofcourse went to ASU and played for the cardinals. It is very cool that he left all that money to fight for the country, and crappy that he died in the process.

I'm sorry but really...
Okey he might have been a really big NFL player...
It's just a bit annoying when it comes everyday in the news that 20 people are killed but one of them was famous and he died in the same combat as the rest of the 19 guys but still it's still just one of the guys who get mentioned...
It's like, THIS GUY DIES and then .............(19 others)..........
Like people wouldn't have the same "values"...
I know we all notice when some famous person dies...but I just started thinking...

Well, the reason his case is so "popular" is because he turned down a multi-million dollar contract so that he could join the armed forces. I think the media has gone a little overboard as well, but he did sacrifice a bit more than the average man.

You could also say that he has lived a richer life than the avarage man, meaning that the death of every other soldier is more sad. They had so much to achieve yet this uy was already "there"...

I don’t know why anyone here has a problem with this.

Look at every history book every made and you’ll find names and stories of a single individual that were supposedly braver than the next man. I don’t like it any better than you but it’s silly to point the finger at our media when European history is filled with these exact same kind of heroes.

But is it that fact that he was braver than other people that they are elevating him for? or is it just because he was a famous person?

If you read the articles that are on him it’s about bravery.

His career as a professional football player seems to be adding to his hero status for enlisting in the military.

In truth it doesn’t matter. My point is that throughout history there are lots of examples of a single rich or poor individual as being some extremely super brave hero.

People need a hero story and it isn’t just the media in the U.S that does this.

On a personal note, no I don't think he's any more brave than the others risking their knecks.
